notes from car buyers to studentsBefore the holiday break, representatives from Kelly Subaru visited Calvin Donaldson Environmental Science Academy to deliver science books donated through the Subaru Loves Learning initiative. Kelly Subaru has selected Calvin Donaldson as its partner in their local efforts for Subaru. The automaker partners with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to broaden the world of children through the study of science, engineering, and innovation.

“We were excited to receive hundreds of books donated from Subaru, said Lorie Collier, principal of Calvin Donaldson Environmental Science Academy. “Each book has a handwritten card provided by someone who purchased a car through Subaru.”

The cards from vehicle purchasers encourage the children at Calvin Donaldson to pursue knowledge and the love of reading. The donated books and cards will help children explore the world around them through science and learn to enjoy the skill of reading. Subaru and AAAS have teamed up to donate over 187,000 science books in schools across the country. The donated books are selected from the winners and finalists of the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books, an award that emphasizes the importance of science books for both information and enjoyment. The books selected exemplify the importance of science books for both information and enjoyment.

More than 80 percent of the fastest-growing jobs in the United States are in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Hamilton County Schools included a commitment in the five-year strategic plan Future Ready 2023 to prepare graduates for those careers of the future and community partners like Kelly Subaru are helping the district reach the goal.
