Help Ms. Tuskan’s class at Barger Academy to create an amazing yearbook with a new camera set, help add a vacuum forming machine for 3D printing in Mr. Seanard’s VW eLab at Dalewood Middle, or help a child’s writing to flow in a creative writing center in Ms. Leesberg’s room at Soddy Elementary. These and many more giving opportunities from robotics to art in Hamilton County Schools are on the DonorsChoose website, and a gift on Tuesday will mean 50% more with each donation.

DonorsChoose is a 501©3 nonprofit that prioritizes efficiency, transparency, and accountability. Donors, teachers, and administrators know where every dollar goes with DonorsChoose. The DonorsChoose mission is to make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education. The organization was started by a history teacher, Charles Best, in 2000. Teachers list dreams for their classrooms on the DonorsChoose website for donors to review and support those that pique their interest.

Hamilton County Schools and DonorsChoose recently announced a new partnership with the national nonprofit to help teachers tap into a network of 4 million donors to support classroom projects and connect with the district’s five-year strategic plan Future Ready 2023. Hamilton County Schools is now one of 30 DonorsChoose District Partners.

Unlike other funding platforms, 75 percent of the dollars given to classroom projects on DonorsChoose.org come from people and organizations outside of a teachers’ personal network. DonorsChoose corporate and foundation partners provided classroom project funding by engaging a community of donors passionate about supporting classrooms with teachers passionate about reaching and teaching their students. DonorsChoose national corporate and foundation partners include The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Google.org, PNC Bank, Staples, and Target.
